Exeter Inn

Topsham's first (and last) pub

This partially thatched pub is the first in Topsham if reaching the town from Exeter (or the last, if heading out on that same road). There has apparently been a pub on this site since at least 1860.

Though it closed temporarily in 2017, the Exeter Inn is open once more under new management. It is one of a sadly diminishing collection of pubs that were once dotted throughout Topsham, serving mainly customers local to their vicinity, such as he King’s Head on Higher Shapter Street, the Malt Scoop on White Street, the Steam Packet on Monmouth Hill or the London and Southwesterner on Fore Street. Those pubs may be gone, but the Exeter Inn remains resolutely open. Please visit and support it, for it is all too true: use it or lose it.
